Original Bootcamp: Second Month

If you remember in these posts, i joined this outdoor-based military style fitness program (basically a bootcamp) organized by Original Bootcamp.

i first joined in June, chose KLCC Park afternoon session as it's convenient for me to go to (after office hour sessions and very near to my office). Then i had to stop going to the bootcamp for two months because i had to undergo a minor surgery (story here) and then it was Ramadhan month (gila hengkau time-time puasa nak berbootcamp bagai).

Now that i'm healthy and free, i re-join the bootcamp! Dah la nak kawen ni, lagi harus lah bersungguh-sungguh kuruskan badan.

My first session started last week on Tuesday. As usual, we had to do the fitness test.

i thought my fitness level is still okay. Ye lah, baru 2 bulan berehat and tak workout langsung, takkan la teruk sangat ye dak? Besides, i lost 3.5 kgs, mesti lah lagi fit. Turned out i was dead wrong! My latest fitness test time was worse that the first fitness test! First test i was at 10 mins 39 secs, second test was 10 minutes flat. This latest one sudah mencorot jadi 10 mins 42 secs! Agak down di situ.

Lesson learned: kalo ko hengat ko dah fit selepas lama bersukan, jangan stop. Once you stop exercising, fitness level will decrease.

Maka cekalkan hati gi bootcamp bersungguh-sungguh nak fit balik.
Second session last Thursday was hell. Think i did 70 push ups, God-knows how many burpees, thrusters, and all the other intense exercises. My arms were sore from Friday til Monday. I AM NOT EXAGGERATING AT ALL!

Third session yesterday was more bearable. Did push-ups (tapi tak la sampai 70!), thrusters, planking, scissor-something, some sprinting, etc. Sekarang otot di perut pulak sakit-sakit *imaginary six-packs*

My June session bootcamp didn't make me lose any weight, so i expect the same from this session. Malas nak berharap. i just want my body to be toner and firmer.

Let's see what tomorrow's session brings. Wish me luck!

What Bootcamp Taught Me

Since i went for the ass surgery, i couldn't go to Original Bootcamp (OBC) sessions. Doctor's advice; no high intensity activities for at least a month.

Fearing for my just-cut ass, i obeyed. No jogging, no bootcamping, no gymming. It's been exactly 25 days since my last OBC session.

i feel terrible. i miss the muscle aches. i miss the instructor's shouting. i miss seeing Hamim sweat like a pig. i miss wondering "what's next?". i miss OBC.

People ask "So what did you get from OBC?"

Here's my point-of-view on OBC..

1) i didn't shed any kgs. My weight is still the same.
   - i'm not gonna lie to you. i thought i'd lose weight by joining, but NO. My weight's still the same. i'm still fat.

2) But i lose a few cm..
   - not much la.. But a few cm on my belly and thigh are gone.. Sikiiiiittttttt je.. A lot more to lose!

3) My fitness level increase
   - Prove: my time was 10 minutes 39 seconds on the first fitness test. On my second one, i managed to finish at 10 minutes! Hooyah!
   - i can run 5km in 34 minutes at Ekiden Run. My usual time was 30 minutes for 3.9km run.
   - During my recent geological fieldwork, we had to hike uphill. i didn't feel tired during or after the hike. Heck, i don't even feel the muscle pain afterwards!
   - Do i need to brag more? :p

4) i became more careful of what i eat
   - i'm not the dieting type. i eat whatever i want. But after joining OBC, the thought of eating nasik lemak for dinner after 100 push-ups makes me lose my appetite. Ko dah penat-penat burn calorie, apsal nak tambah lagi?

5) i became a little bit more muscle-y
  - Otot di peha dan betis sudah memejal. Tak se-flabby dulu. Perot je susah benor nak memejal. Hadoiii..

6) i challenge myself more
  - i found that when i'm tired of running or doing the squats, my inner voice would say "Come on, bitch! Just a bit more. That girl dah buat 20 kali takkan ko nak buat 17 kali je?"

7) i made friends.. Lots of them.
  - People from all kinds of age groups, professions and companies join OBC. So i made friends. When you feel like dying doing the burpees, a stranger's motivating words somehow motivates you to try harder.

Errr.. Yeah, that's all the points that i can think of right now. My only regret is that i didn't join sooner. i'm gonna start a new OBC session right after Ramadhan. Gotta work these muscles. Wish me luck!

p/s: Memang tak la berehat sebulan after surgery. During my fieldwork i hiked uphill, i swam, i ran, i jumped around.. Alhamdulilah ass is still intact. Takde jahitan tercabut :p

Original Bootcamp : Session 5 and 6

i have this perception that Tuesdays' session is far more challenging than Thursday's session. In my 3 weeks of bootcamp, that is my observation.

This week is no exception. Session 5 on Tuesday wore me down. We had to do 4-minute long exercises. 4 minutes of forward lunges, 4 minutes of monkey walk, 4 minutes of gorilla walk (is that what it's called?), four minutes of push ups, and four minutes of every pain-in-the-thighs moves there are in the world.

Session 6 was fun as it was a bring-a-friend day. i didnt bring just a friend. i brought THREE friends. Abang Isnin, Mariah and Chuna. Huhu.  We did mainly stationary exercises in session 6. Abs exercises with Corporal Olga and lower body exercises with Corporal Hafiz. We finished it with a team-based exercise by doing a hundred burpees.

After 6 sessions of bootcamp, i don't think i lose any kgs. But i definitely see a few slight changes in my body; i'm fitter (tak lah senang mengah), more aware of the food that i eat (hello ko dah buat close to 100 push up and you wanna waste that by eating nasik lemak ayam goreng for dinner? No thanks.), and i can feel that my body is a little tiny bit toner now (especially kat peha dan lengan, thanks to those squats and push ups). Perasaan je la kan. Ntah fitter and toner ke idok.

i have another 2 sessions to go. Will definitely sign up for July. HOOYAH!!

Original Bootcamp KLCC: Session One and Two

Session One

So after my first session at Original Bootcamp KLCC, i'm still ALIVE!

i'm not gonna lie to you.. it's not easy. It's almost hard actually.

For warm-up, we were seperated into two groups. Their warm-up is not our usual before-futsal warm up. Theirs involve moves like squatting, sumo steps, knee-up runs, lunges and heel-up runs. Agak mengah disitu kalau dah lama tak workout.

Next came the fitness test.

This was a nightmare.

The instruction was to do 20 reps squats, run until you see the yellow cone, come back, do 15 reps of push-up, run to the yellow cone again, come back and do burpees, run and come back. The results are based on your time. The shorter time you take, the fitter you are.

Squatting was an easy peasy job for me, i was one of the first to finish (bragging, i know) then off i ran. i thought the cone was like 50 meters away so i sprinted like a kid. Then i ran, ran and ran, i still couldn't see the cone. Rupanya kon itu is like 300 meters away. 300 freaking meters! Sudah mengah disitu (did i mention i HATE jogging?). Turn back and got down to do my push ups.

Now, push ups are one of the things that i hate the most because i never get it right. At this point, i started to feel dizzy. i felt like giving up.

Done with push-ups, i half-walk-half-ran to the cone and back. i felt like stopping and walk. But i kept on running. Now down to do my burpees. Burpees adalah susah ya Rabbi apabila ko mengah, sakit perut, and dizzy. Managed to finish off 10 reps and ran to the cone. At this point i mostly walked. Malas dah nak lari.

 OBC fitness test.
(More or less like this la)
Images are compiled from Google image.

In the end, i managed to finish in 10 minutes 39 seconds. Okay la timing ni. Average. Ade newbie ni finished at 8-ish minutes. Terer gilaa. Ade jugak yang finished at 14-ish minutes. Ikot kemampuan masing-masing. Tiada paksaan.

Lepas habis buat fitness test ni memang rasa cam nak koma je. Dizzy plus nausea, plus lutut ketaq.. Terbaik la weh.

Session Two

Came Thursday, i was half dreading it and half excited for my second session of Bootcamp. Dreading it coz my legs are still sore from first session

Surprisingly, compared to Session One, Session Two was easy peasy. We had to jog and side jog for warm-up.

Then we were divided into two groups; Alpha and Beta and were paired with a partner with same level of fitness.

We did partner-exercises like squats, one-legged squats, errrr...Spiderman moves and gave each other piggy-back rides. At this point, i feel sorry for my partner. She's slightly smaller than me, meaning i'm slightly heavier than her. And she has to carry me on her back... And she did it for two rounds. Superwoman, this girl.

So yeah, Session Two is more bearable than Session One.

Can't wait to find out what Session Three has in store for us!

Original Bootcamp

i've always liked being active. i really do.

But in between work, love life, hanging out with friends, and spending time with family, being active has to take a backseat. Paling berusaha pon adalah memuatkan masa 3 kali seminggu gi gym (tapi slalunya tak smpai 3 kali pon). Berusaha jugak untuk menjalani outdoor activities, like paintball, jogging at the park and play futsal (memang jarang gilaaa), my Taman Negara trip, Gunung Kutu trip, Mount Kinabalu trip and whatever activity i can squeeze into.

As you can see on my lack-of-update, i haven't been active since my last Kinabalu trip.

So i decided to do something crazy. Something i only see in the Biggest Loser episodes.

i'm gonna join a BOOTCAMP, people!!

It's an outdoor based fitness training system. Whatever that means, it sounds scary. Looking at this video is even scarier.

i can't imagine myself doing those things!

My sessions are gonna start tomorrow. Twice a week after work at KLCC Park. i'm worried and excited at the same time. Will let you know about the bootcamp if i'll still be alive after tomorrow.

Wish me luck!
